New vulnerabilities in SCADA systems found

Italian computer security researcher found a few vulnerabilities in systems for controlling various industrial machines, better known under the acronym SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).

This is the second time this year that Luigi Auriemma found vulnerabilities in these systems, in March he disclosed vulnerabilities in SCADA systemsproduced by Siemens, Iconics, 7-Technologies and Datac. SCADA systems are used in factories, power stations, dams and other industrial facilities for controlling machines. This new finding has additionally alarmed experts after already famous attack on SCADA systems in Iran which induced sever physical damage on an Iranian nuclear plant. New vulnerabilities were found on systems produced by 6 different manufacturers, Rockwell Automation being the largest of them. SCADA systems by the company Rockwell Automation can be found all over United States of America in power plants, water supply systems and other manufacturing facilities. Security flaws that Luigi Auriemma found allow an attacker to take control of the SCADA system, and according to his words, quite easily so. More details can be found at COMPUTERWORLD web site.
